Uganda's rural water & sanitation crisis
With the vast landscape and rich water resources in Uganda, millions of Ugandans especially the rural communities still do not have access to clean, affordable and safe drinking water due to multiple factors, including population growth, climate change, pollution, and inadequate water infrastructure. The World Health Organization’s report highlights a severe water crisis in Uganda with over 23 million people lacking access to this fundamental resource that is over 3 in every 5 people

In the rural communities of Northern Uganda alone, people draw their drinking water mainly from unprotected surface sources such as ponds, hand-dug wells and rivers. These sources which are often watering holes for livestock, downhill from latrines, and catchments for mudslide debris are dangerous contaminants that have contributed to life-threatening illnesses like diarrhoea, cholera, typhoid, dysentery and hepatitis among others. These waterborne diseases kill more than 3 million people every year and 43% of those deaths are children under the age of five
Since the traditional gender roles in Uganda dictates that women and girls are responsible for domestic affairs and childcare while men dedicate their time to working in the fields, Northern Uganda rural women and children spend most of their day walking for miles to fetch contaminated water to sustain themselves and the family. This responsibility restricts their time for other productive activities and educational pursuits, limiting their potential for personal and professional growth

Sometimes.....
Catching rain, protecting a spring or repairing a neglected pump is just as valuable as digging a new well

We believe that every human being deserves safe, affordable and accessible drinking water because it is not only a basic human right, but also an essential building block for the survival and well being of any community. Provision of safe drinking water should be a priority of every individual, community and government because public health, economic development and environmental sustainability are dependent on it
As one of the leading non-profit organization providing safe and accessible water in the villages of Northern Uganda, we developed a community-based strategy, which enables us to implement sustainable water, sanitation and hygiene solutions that foster a sense of community ownership and responsibility. We build new wells, rehab neglected wells, construct rain catchment tanks and protect springs where appropriate. We don’t just provide water and sanitation infrastructure, we also engage our experts along with the communities to determine what makes sense and thereafter empower the beneficiaries to manage the project so as to ensure a long-term sustainability
Our project aims is
To provide safe and accessible drinking water to the rural communities of Northern Uganda through a sustainable water management strategies
Our Approach
Collaborating with governments, NGOs and international organizations to fund and execute water projects using technologies appropriate to the local context
Constructing latrines to protect the environment and water sources from faecal contamination
